Kindred Tree Service grinds stumps from 2229 Marvonne Rd, Lawrence, KS 66047. Call (785) 371-4859, Monday to Friday, 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM. Saturday and Sunday are closed.
Stump grinding is a carbide wheel taken 6 to 12 inches below grade, plus the surface roots that catch a mower. The hole looks finished because it is full of chips. Chips are useful fill. They are a poor seedbed. If you want grass, pull most of them, add topsoil, then seed. If you want another tree in the same spot, grind deeper than a lawn grind and get the chips out of the planting hole. Stump removal is a different job. Grinding leaves the deep roots. Removal digs the plate. Lawns want the first. Patios and pools want the second. Measure the stump at the widest point above grade and send that with a photo. A gate under about 36 inches changes the machine. Hours stay weekdays only.
