SpamRescue for Freelancers and Small Agencies: Stop Client Emails From Disappearing
When you work for yourself or run a small agency, your inbox is your storefront. Project briefs, approvals, signed contracts, payment confirmations and referral requests all arrive by email. If a spam filter hides one of them, you may look slow or unresponsive to a client who did nothing wrong.
SpamRescue finds legitimate emails in your spam folder and helps you move them back to your inbox. This article explains how it works, what it reads and what each plan costs.
Who makes it
SpamRescue comes from CompanionLink Software, the company behind productivity and sync tools such as DejaOffice.
Why client emails get flagged
Spam filters make guesses, and they often guess wrong. A first message from a new client, a reply to an invoice with an attachment link, or a note from a prospect using a company domain you have never seen can all look suspicious. Most people rarely check their spam folder, so a wrongly flagged message can sit there for weeks.
Freelancers also often juggle several addresses, such as a personal one, a business one and a shared inbox for a project. Checking spam in each of them is a chore that tends to get skipped. SpamRescue puts everything into one review list across all connected mailboxes.
What it is
SpamRescue is a spam folder recovery service. It has no inbox of its own, so you connect a mailbox you already use. It does not block junk either. It reviews what is already in your spam folder, scores each message by how likely it is to be wanted, and leaves the decision to you.
How scanning and scoring work
SpamRescue looks back over the last 21 days of your spam folder. On the Free plan, scans run manually. On Starter, scans run twice a day, and on Professional they run four times a day.
Each message is scored using sender signals, subject content, reply history, mailing list flags and SPF, DKIM and DMARC results. Every score shows which signals counted and by how much.
Messages scoring 2 or higher land in a Likely Rescue list. All other messages go to a Review list. For each message, you can rescue it, hide it or delete it. Nothing moves unless you choose it or turn on auto rescue.
Keywords that fit your client list
Ham keywords mark wanted email, such as client names, project names, your accounting tool or your payment platform. Spam keywords push down messages you never need back, such as promotions and newsletters. Keywords match the subject line and sender name, and any change rescores your current messages right away.
The site says most customers finish setup in 10 to 15 minutes. The Free plan allows 5 keyword rules, and paid plans allow unlimited rules.
Auto rescue and the digest
When you trust the results, you can turn on auto rescue and pick a threshold from 2 to 5. Messages at or above that threshold move to your inbox each night. The site says most customers begin at a threshold of 3 after a week of manual review.
A daily or weekly digest email lists what was rescued, so nothing happens silently.
Helper accounts
On the Professional plan, an assistant or virtual office manager can review and rescue messages without seeing your login details or account settings. Helpers work from sender and subject information only and cannot read your email.
Privacy and technical details
- Connection: IMAP, with read access to the spam folder only.
- Encryption in transit: SSL/TLS on port 993.
- Passwords: encrypted at rest with AES-256.
- Data read: sender name, sender address, subject line and authentication headers.
- Data never read: email bodies, which are not accessed, stored or transmitted.
- AI: none, and your data is not sent to outside models or services.
- Your setup: no routing changes, filter rewrites or mail interception.
- Sending: SpamRescue never sends email on your behalf.
- Gmail: requires an App Password rather than your regular password.
For anyone handling confidential client work, the key point is that message content is never part of the process.
Supported mailboxes
SpamRescue works with Gmail, iCloud, AOL, Fastmail, Google Workspace, Zoho Mail, Microsoft 365, Outlook and any standard IMAP server. Personal Gmail and Outlook.com accounts work with app passwords.

If you need more than 10 mailboxes, write to hello@spamrescue.com.
What it is not
SpamRescue is not an email provider, a spam blocker, a general inbox cleaner or an AI tool. It focuses on recovering messages from the last 21 days of spam.
Getting started
- Register at spamrescue.com on the Free plan.
- If you use Gmail, create an App Password first.
- Connect your mailbox over IMAP.
- Review the Likely Rescue list, then the Review list.
- Add ham keywords for your clients and tools.
- Turn on auto rescue once the results look right.
Support is available through the form on the site, with replies on the next business day. Support hours are 7 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. US Pacific Time, Monday to Friday.
The bottom line
Missed client emails cost trust and income. SpamRescue reads only headers, uses no AI, leaves your mail setup alone and keeps you in control. The Free plan lets you see what your spam folder has been hiding before you spend anything.
